Corner Shops.
These are all the photographs I have captured of corner shops around Blackburn area to help me document how they are thriving so well.
Sacha Mini Market.
11 Ballantra Road Shadsworth Sacha mini market (iron Bru shop) this corner shop has served the shadsworth estate since it was built in 1959. This shop sells the same goods as it did when it first opened such as bread, milk, confectionery, cigarettes, Ice Cream but the way the goods are sold are different from when it originally opened most modern goods are already sliced and packed ready for purchase this is a large store and sells lots of new modern goods such as kids toys, frozen foods, and has a cash machine inside.
Sacha Mini Market Evaluation.
What I like about this photograph is that its off center and also
the sign above the shutter which reads no ball games helps to show it is in a large community.
The plain colour's from the shutters really make the orange and blue in the
in the sign on the top of the shop contrasty.
What I would change within this photograph if I had to re-shoot it would be to experiment
with getting the full building and not just the shop front which I think
will help give a bigger picture of the area this photograph was captured in.

15 Ballantrae Road
15 Ballantrae Road shadsworth now closed but up until a couple of years ago this was once the local post office/ Corner shop, This shop was built in 1959 this shop will have been thriving when it first opened with the newly built housing estate surrounding it, Now it lies empty with the shutters down.
15 Ballantrae Road Evaluation.
This is a photograph where I captured this picture from
a slightly off centre angle so that I captured the end of the building
showing the trees and sky. I also like the fact I have slightly moved
my camera to one side to achieve the out line of the building
to be slightly bent and slanted angle, this really gives this photograph alot
of characteristics. The different colour's within this image makes the shops stand out from
the brick work and the pavement I really like all the angles and shapes that
are formed and packed into this one photograph. One other thing
that catches my eye is the boarded up windows at the top of the shop sowing it isn't being lived in either.

The Bread Box Confectioners.
8 Ballantrae Road Shadsworth, The bread box confectioners, this is a thriving shop was built when the estate was first built in 1959 this is one of the few reaming shops in this area of Blackburn (shadsworth) this shop sells a range of hot and cold sandwich's and salads, It also sells cakes and other confectionery goods.
The Bread Box Evaluation.
What I like most about this photograph i have captured is all about
the angles and not ''Perfectly straight lines'' within this photograph.
This is shown through the shutters as you can see are damaged and tatty,
slightly hanging down and the lead work you can see the age with this shop
which makes this photographs really ascetically pleasing to look at. You can
also see that i have used 1/200 shutter speed with an F/10 which really helps
the exposure to be correct and Sharpe and not too dark.

shadsworth Youth Zone.
2 Ballantrae Road Shadsworth, Shadsworth youth zone this shop has been convert about 5 years ago to provide a place for young people to go and as a community centre for the estate. This shop when it first built in 1959 was one of the 7 shops on the street that sold there goods to people of shadsworth estate.
shadsworth Youth Zone Evaluation.
What I like about this photograph is that I captured not just the shop but the a slice of the side
of the building to show its on the corner and not a middle terraced shop and I also
like the contrast throughout all the browns, white, greys and other dark colours which give this
photograph an old eery feel to it which brings the photograph to life.
What I would change about this photograph if I had to re-photograph would be the little green alarm box try to use a range of techniques to make it blend in and not distract the eye from the photograph itself.
I really like the mosaic pattern around the shop it really makes it stand out and attracts your eyes.

Cornelian Street Corner Shop.
89 Cornelian Street, Cornelian corner shop which was built in 1903 on the corner of Cornelian street and Emerald Street this shop is now closed but still remains empty and has been for a number of years, Just before it closed it used to serve the Roe Lee Area of Blackburn such things as Bread, Milk, cigarettes and everyday essentials.
Cornelian Street Corner Shop Evaluation
What I like about this photograph is that I captured
is that the it shows its on a corner shop.
This was my where my project began, this was my first photograph
I captured of a corner shop showing the angles and the rough
composition within each photograph if I re-shot this image I would try and capture
the whole of the shop including the roof to give this photograph its full potential.

75 Devonport Corner Shop.
situated on the corner of Devonport road and fox house street
Devonport Road was previously Sarah Ellen Street and was built in 1929
This corner shop is now closed, it has been closed for a few years, before it closed it was a Asian fabric shop where they could purchase
materials of of all colours and styles and they also produced Asian style dresses, Before this shop turned into a fabric store it was
originally built as a Local corner shop were they would of sold Bread, Milk, Cigarettes, confectionery, Newspapers and other goods.
This shop remains closed today.
75 Devonport Road Evaluation.
I photographed this early in the morning with a very strong (sunlight) natural lighting
which has resulted in the right side of mu image being quite over exposed as
the sun was hitting that side of the building but I have used this to my advantage as
it really makes the image stand out and show I have worked with natural lighting using a shutter speed 1/80 and F/11 with ISO - 400 which contributes to capturing this photograph
the way I have, I also like the angle I used to capture this image showing the full corner shop and also showing the corner of the brick work on the building.

The Telegraph Shop.
Telegraph shop Dukes brow.
This telegraph is situated on Dukes brow which was built 1844 this telegraph serves all the locals still today, It mainly supply's the locals with milk,
cigarettes and sweets, this is a busy little local and very convenient for them it is built in the middle of a row of terraced houses.
The Telegraph Shop Evaluation.
What I like about this photograph is the lighting which is so defined with
very light and dark this is caused with the sun which is very strong early morning and has helped me to its full potential to make such a defined photograph
with the use of natural lighting again within this photograph you can see how
I have experimented with rough edges making them not ''perfectly straight''
I also like that within this photograph I have also
captured each side of the shop slightly to show it was a terraced row with a shop in the middle.

Best One
Revidge Revidge Road was constructed in 1826 The best one, is a modern shop which is situated on revidge road, Before it converted to
The best one it was a corner shop called The times, this serves the locals the essentials it is a small supermarket so have more goods than
just a normal shop, but this was once a newsagent.
Best One Evaluation.
Within this photograph you can see the natural lighting that has
been used to my advantage of this shop. I don't like the top left hand corner being negative
space I could of re-shot this and photographed this from a more diagonal
angle to fill the negative space.
I do like the lines within this photograph as its made up of a large amount and variety of different lines and shapes.
S-1/80 F/14 ISO-400
Miran' Mini Market Evaluation.
This photograph is ascetically pleasing as the dirty brick work really
tells a story of how long this building has been standing and it
adds to the detail and the story behind this corner shop.
I made sure I got the two different textures within the walls of this building.
I would change this photograph by standing back to capture some of the road and filling
the frame with more pavement also.
S-1/80 F/29 ISO-400
Wignall's Corner Shop.
Wignalls corner shop is situated on the corner of Galligreaves way and Dickinson Close, Galligreaves was built in Galligreaves Way 1980
It has been Wignalls since it opened in 1980 and they served the locals old fashion sweets and confectionery and still today they serve the locals
of Griffin/Bank top.
Wignall's Corner Shop Evaluation.
This is one of my favourites photographs I have captured
within this project I am full filling as the lighting is so subtle and
really makes the details within the shop front, the pavement and the road
I have photographed this straight on capturing just a little bit of the next building I like the red/brown brick slightly within this photograph.
This is a very old looking building and the way I have captured this image
makes it ascetically pleasing to look at.
The Wellington Traditional Fish and Chips.
The Wellington Fish and Chips is situated across the road from The Newsagent On Hancock street, This Tradition fish and chips was originally called
Galley fish and chips but have changed owners and named it The Wellington after the street it is also situated on. This corner local traditional fish
and chip shop serves the local's a traditional meal of fish and chips in a take away style shop.
The Wellington Traditional Fish and Chips Evaluation.
The composition within this photograph really is striking when you first see it
as it captures the subject and the surrounding area but doesn't distract your eyes fully.
the use of natural lighting in this image is used to my advantage its a very basic photograph but helps to show the exact story I'm trying to show and present.
The decorative brick work on the top of the shop really stands out and it gives the image a sense of an aged building and shows traditional building which helps this photograph come alive.

Seedatts Newsagent.
The news agent is situated on Stansfeld Street it was built in 1878-1980 this shop still serves the local around the bank top area, this is quite a modern
newsagents which has modern convinces such as a cash machine and also sells gas and electric to the locals along side the confectionery
Seedatts Newsagents Evaluation
What I like in this photograph is how I made sure to capture the cash machine sign to obtain
the old and modern all into one photograph
I really like how I have thought about my composition within this
photograph as i have captured the road/pavement and also the front of the shop all into
this one photograph. The natural lighting complements this image.

95 Stanfield street
95 Stanfield street was originally built in the year of 1878 this corner shop is situated on the corner of Stanfield street and Wellington road
This shop stands empty today but when this was up and running it would be a corner
shop supply goods for the Locals of Galligreaves and Bank top area Confectionery, Cigarettes and newspapers also
small amounts of household products such as tissues, cleaning products and some tinned food.
this still stands closed today.
95 Stanfield Street Evaluation
I captured this photograph from the cross roads on Stanfield street and Wellington road
I wanted to get the full corner shop in to the frame of the photograph but I also wanted
to include the pavement and the road within this shot.
Your eye is directed straight to the main front door of the shop as this is at the main corner of the two walls that meet to make up the building of the corner shop.
The rich red engineering brick within this photograph really catches your eye and almost
distracts you from the subject of the corner shop.
I like how I have incorporated the road sign into this particular photograph as it shows the old fashioned corner shop with modern street furniture.
S-1/125 F/18 ISO-400
Johns store.
113 Griffin Street built in 1878 and this corner shop would of originally been a local shop which sold only the bare essentials
such as Fruit and Veg, Newspapers and cigarettes. This has been converted in to a more larger shop which stocks alot
more than it originally would of done such as sweets, confectionery, Tinned food, Some Cleaning products. This is still open
and serves the locals of the griffin area.
John Store Evaluation.
I don't particularly like the composition within this photograph but it is quite
a tradition corner shop with the signs above the doors and windows and the stone architecture within the building itself but it is modern as you can see from the new security shutters and the new brick work.
If I had to re-shoot this photograph I would work closely with my composition and angles within this photograph.
S-1/125 F/18 ISO-400
Life Style Express Evaluation
This photograph I photographed in the area of Mill Hill this a traditional terraced row of houses with a corner shop. I worked really closely with my composition within this photograph
I stood in the road area to capture this making sure I only got the main front of the shop on the left hand side but i wanted to fill the frame showing that it is a terraced house row with the shop on the corner. I would change this by experimenting with getting closer and filling the frame in which to get more of the shop front in.
The exposure within this photograph is a really good quality with the use of natural lighting.
S-1/125 F/14 ISO-400
I captured this image from across the road facing the shop front focusing on my composition,
I did this by photographing this shop from straight facing the front door to incorporate the very large windows at either side. I took this photograph at this exact angle to fill the frame of this image with the eye catching green wood work above the windows and at the sides of the door that really makes this piece of work stand out from the rest of my images in this series of corner shop photographs.I also like that I have captured the pavement as it curves around the shop which is evidence of it being a corner shop and makes this ascetically pleasing to look at.
Also when photographing this subject I wanted to include the window of the next terraced house showing that this is a row of terraced houses with a local shop on the corner for the residents of the area.
S-1/125 F/13 ISO-400
Barm pots.
Mill Hill Street was built in 1878 and also Chapel Street was built in the same year. where Barm pots is situated on the corner of these two streets
in mill hill this is another sandwich shop of a few in the area, This one supply the locals with hot and cold sandwiches, salads, cakes and other
kinds of confectionery to the locals, this sandwich shop also offers a seating area which lets the customers sit down and eat there
goods within the shop were they are buying there goods. This is a modern corner shop within the mill hill area.
Barm Pots Evaluation
This image I captured from an angle to include the stone bonding architecture above the main front door of this sandwich shop as it really attracts your eye to look further into this photograph.
I found this an awkward angle to photograph as it wasn't on an 90 degree angle and framing this image meant it became a challenge to include the full potential of a photograph and the building itself which lead to me take quite a few photographs from different angles.
I think that the metal shutters are very eye distracting and takes the viewers focus away from the meaning of the ''corner shop'' and the building itself which I am trying to document the fact the shutters dominate the appearance of this building.
S-1/125 F/13 ISO-400
John's cut price 2
Which is situated on the bottom corner of Mill hill street which was built in 1878 this is an old shop which has been there for quite a number
of years this shop is a shop that serves the locals of mill hill all the products they could need without travelling to big supermarkets such as
B&Q, and other major supermarkets.
They stock goods such as Screws, hooks, bags of cemement, cleaning products, Pick and mix sweets, plants and gardening tools
and plants and other items the locals may need without travelling to a larger supermarket.
John's Cut Price 2 Evaluation.
When i first came across this corner shop my eyes were imminently attracted to the red painted walls of which make up this shop and the striking blue wooden frame old fashioned shop front with all the goods displayed to catch the passers by to draw them in just like a traditional corner shop used to. When i photographed this shop my aim was to draw the viewers eye to the main window with the goods all hanging and stacked up on top of each.
My aim when capturing this striking photograph was to use the red painted walls to my advantage by using it as a boarder to draw you eye to the main subject which is the cluttered striking blue window.
One other main reason I worked with this photograph on this angle was showing the roads on a sloap and the pavements showing it was at the bottom of a hill.
S-1/125 F/11 ISO- 400
Shorrock lane fish and chips
7 Shorrock lane was built in 1851 and shorrock lane fish and chips is a traditional fish and chip shop which is situated on the corner of
shorrock lane, mill hill area this has served the locals fish and chips for many years and still today are thriving as a busy local
fish and chips shop still to this day.
I worked closely with the composition in this photograph which I captured, I wanted to show that this building wasn't very wide and almost disguised as a terraced house the main feature that makes it as a shop is the main front window which is defined with wood strips separating it into 9 small windows. I wanted to capture the fact that it stands out this being mainly demonstrated through the colour around the door frame and window frame.
The colour of the window frame disguises the fact it has got a new modern security shutter this colour makes the shop look old and traditional.
I really like defined line down the right hand side of this photograph this really draws your eyes to the texture of the bricks in this photograph which is another factor that makes this piece ascetically pleasing. I also chose to photograph at this angle to incorporate both fish and chip signs on the front of this boarding one being directly on the main building and the other attached to the building at a 90 degrees angle making it alot more challenging to get both signs in.
S-1/125 F/13 ISO-400
The wash bowl
The Wash Bowl Evaluation.
Whilst I was capturing this photograph I experimented by tilting the camera slightly to right hand side to make the out line of this photograph not perfectly straight to add to the characteristics within this image. I mainly wanted to capture the front of this building as this shows age with the grey weathered front and the wooden all glass door, and the big simple brown wooden framed window shows the washing equipment through the glass.
I was aiming to capture the street sign into my photograph as this is evidence that it is on a street corner.
S-1/125 F/11 ISO-400
Ab-Fab hairdressers.
Ab-Fab is situated on the corner of New chapel street and Grantham street, this corner shop provides the locals with the chance to go and have there hair
cut and relax whilst its being done. This would of originally of been a local corner shop which would of supplied the goods that the locals
would need to purchase for there everyday lives such as, Bread, Milk, Confectionery, cigarettes this is now a very modern shop which
converted into a hairdressers so it gives the locals a place to go and have there hair done.
Ab-Fab hairdressers Evaluation.
I photographed this corner shop as it is quite modern compared to the other traditional local corner shops I am documenting to full fill this project. You can the weathered dirty rendered textured finish to this building which shows it is a modern business in a traditional corner shop building. you can see the other modern parts of the building such as the eye striking business signs which really distracts your eye from the building and its textures.
I also wanted to incorporate whilst capturing this image was the ballads as this shows it is on the corner of two busy streets, it also shows that this area were this corner shop has been situated for many years has always been a busy main street running through the area this is shown by the two old ballads and the one very modernised ballad with its reflective black and white colour cover.
S-1/125 F/11 ISO-400
1/125 F/11 ISO-400
I photographed this to fill the frame of this image with the full corner shop also I was experimenting with angles and this was the most appropriate angle to give this image its full potential. I wanted to incorporate the modern day with the traditional i have done this by capturing the modern aluminium cash machine sign along side the traditional toy drop down machine. This shop also demonstrates traditional advertising shown through the way I have capture on the angle i have used particularly as it shows off the posters advertising good in the shop which are presented on the door for when people are walking in.
S-1/125 F/16 ISO-400
This traditional corner shop is on a challenging angle which I had to closely work with the composition to get the full shop front, the main shop front is separate to the original
building as it has got a single story extension with a flat roof that wraps around the corner of the building in an almost circular angle this proved challenging when photographing as I had to take a wide range of photographs at different angles to see which had the best outcome.
I wanted to capture that it was modern with the brown security shutters and the UPVC windows and doors which make up this corner shop which this contrasts with the original building which you can see above the shop front which also includes an original brick feature on the corner of the building.

Wensley mini market.
Wensley Road was built in 1980 and Lancaster road is a road that leads off wensley road and Lancaster street was built in the year of
1878 previously Wensley Street named after mother of Dr Joseph Lancaster who owned an estate extending from Miles Wife Hey (Lime field) to Wensley Fold. This corner shop which is situated on wensley road and Lancaster road is a mini
super market that serves the locals a wide range of goods some such as Toiletries, Ice Cream Sweets, Chocolate, Drinks, Bread. Eggs, Milk Pet food, huge selection on chilled drinks and snakes groceries and tobacco, This is quite a modern
shop and supply the locals of the wensley fold area modern technology of being able to pay there bills There also. This shop is also licence to sell Wines, Beers, Spirits. This would of once of just sold the essentials that people needed to live to the locals but it has modernized to be more convenient and sell a wide range of other goods.
Wensley Mini Market Evaluation.
The problems i faced when capturing this corner shop was the size and scale this local corner shop is on i wanted to incorporate the large range of different signs which looks like they have been put up at different periods of time over the years which almost looks like a collarge.
I wanted to capture the dominant red colour of the shop front and the vibrant brick work above the shop.
S-1/125 F/18 ISO-400
Wensley fold news is situated on the corner of wensley road and on Saunders road which was built in the year of 1899.
This corner shop is a newsagent to the wensley fold area locals and serves them the essentials such as Milk,Bread, confectionery, and
other goods, but has become more modern and now supply a pay station for peoples bills such as gas and electricity and phone top ups to the locals
of this area.
Wensley fold News Evaluation.
I wanted to incorporate all the modern day signs which are attached to the building at a 90 degrees angle whilst also incorporating the main front of the shop.
The photograph shows the advertising of newspapers this is traditional advertisement within this shop. this photograph I have captured shows the modernized version of this traditional building you can see this by the new bold black metal eye distracting sign which distracts the eye and the black door and window frames also add to this eye distracting part of this image.

East Lakes News Store.
7 Preston New road, this town center shop was built between the years of 1850 -1870.
This shop supplies the passers by of Preston New Road which is this where this shop gains most of its trade from the public as its a main road that leads people of the community
to the town center, the shop supply's has got a wide
range of goods some of which are newspapers, magazines it also offers the customers sweets, snacks, a range of cold drinks and other confectionery goods. This store also holds a licence for selling tobacco.
East Lakes News Store Evaluation.
This photographed is of a local corner shop which is situated just off Preston New Road,
i worked closely with the contrast of the dark brick work and the very vibrant red around the windows on the front of the shop which really make the windows and door of this shop stand out to attract customers. I made sure that I included the road within this composition of the building as it really helps show that this is on a busy road.

UDAT Newsagents.
78 King William Street, This town center shop was built around the year of 1851, this local newsagent shop gets a large amount of trade from the large amount of surrounded business area in the town center along with the large amount of people that travel on foot that pass by this local shop on the route to the main shopping mall.
This shop stocks alot of confectionery goods like crisps, chocolate, cakes, sandwiches,
and it also supply's groceries, stationary, tobacco and magazines and newspapers.
this shop still retains its traditional features like its big wooden framed window and the
architectural wood at the sides of the shop.
UDAT Newsagents evaluation.
When capturing this photograph i took great care to make the big front bay window catch the viewers eye of the size of this large shop window whilst also filling the frame with the outskirts of the building which you would normally discard of. I also aimed to capture the traditional window sills above the shop floor shows age within the building evidence of this can be seen by the weathered and beaten look of the stone window sills and the original brick work above it.
The wooden architecture around the shop helps to frame the traditional looking shop.
If i had to re-shoot this image i would take more care in extending from the focal point being the main front window and including the wooden architecture to make a bigger effect.

Washeteria
220 Plane Tree Road, this Launderette's which is situated on the corner of Plane Tree Road and Whalley Old Road was built in year of 1929 and serves the local community of little Harwood with a self service laundry this corner launderette also provides washing and drying facility's as well as offering a dry cleaning services.
Washeteria Evaluation.
This photograph gives the impression that the launderette front is very flat and has a smooth texture, i wanted to capture this as there are no new modern added features within this building which makes it a fully traditional corner launderette.
I aimed to shoot the building including the negative space (sky) to obtain the angles within the roof line as when you look closely into this photograph you see that it is made up of quadrant shapes such as the square windows, the rectangle sign, the combined window and door with the 5 separate square windows at the top of the main window and the 1 large square window on the first floor. The roof line with the sky is also evidence that this is an end of terraced traditional shop.

Pound Plus Corner.
159 Whalley old road was built in the year of 1851 where this large corner shop is situated this is a store like the main pound lands
in the main precinct and they supply the locals of Little Harwood area with all different kinds of goods which they cant purchase in the other
corner shops such as, house hold products and cleaning products, indoor bins, toiletries, utensils and other kitchen ware, out door brushes,
children small toys and other items that they would need without travelling to the main supermarkets or town.
Pound Plus Center Evaluation.
This image i captured by standing on the other side of the road so i could fill the frame with the whole of the shop and not just the front as you can see this shop is at the side as well as the front. I like how i have captured the pavement which shows that it is on the corner as the pavement follows the shop round and complements the building.
This is a traditional corner shop with modern advertisement signs attached to the shop for the passer by's to capture this is shown through the bright bold yellow taxi rank sign.
S-1/200 F/16 ISO-400
New top choice food store.
232 whalley old road which was build in 1851 this is another corner shop that makes up the corner shops within the Little Harwood area,
this has converted into a food store and sells many different types of frozen and chilled foods, spices, herbs, fruit and veg, rice and other
essentials that people may need. this shop would of once of been a corner shop which would of only of supplied the bare essentials such as
cigerettes, newspapers, milk, bread, and glass bottles of pop which the locals would of bought and brung back the bottles to get the money back for the
bottles that they would of used. This is a very modernized 20th century local shop in a busy community.
I wanted to capture the aspect of this being a traditional fruit and veg shop this is demonstrated by showing the stands with all the fruit and veg piled onto of them. I also obtain this by capturing the modernized but traditional style canape that shelters the fruit and veg. I used this angle for this image to show the size of this large shop. I also like the fact I have captured the two elderly people in this image as this is the locals that keep these small business thriving in the Blackburn distract.
S-1/200 F/13 ISO-400
This is a striking photograph which is demonstrated through the brightly contrast of blue and yellow sign around the door and windows this helps to frame this image and make you want to see more. I captured this photograph from a straight on angle to full fill the frame and make capture the whole of this corner shop, if i had to change anything within this photograph i would frame this photograph with capturing the corner showing that this is a corner shop and not a middle terraced shop.
S-I/200 F/13 ISO-400
The angle that i captured this photograph on is diagonally to ensure i captured the whole of this shop as there is a window on both sides with the door on the corner, this is a very traditional corner shop with defined lines within the brick and stone work this is shown thorough the main white drain pipe separating the two different materials which have been used to build these two different walls which make up this traditional corner shop, i like the defined red with the dull stone brown colour which really brings this image to life. I also captured the modernized road furniture within this frame distracts the eye to the main subject which is the traditional corner shop.
S-1/200 F/14 ISO-400
SZ Newsagents
SZ newsagents which is situated on the corner of Benson street which was built in the year of
1903 which is a road that leads off the whalley old road to the Little Harwood housing estate to the right of the main road which runs through Little Harwood, this shop converted to SZ newsagents recently and was previously Benson's corner shop which had been the same for many years. this shop has modernized quite alot which they supply there locals with goods such as confectionery, greeting cards, soft drinks, bread and milk, tobacco & E-Liquid (which is a very modern product)
general groceries, news and magazines, sandwiches, toys, gifts, stationary and also hot drinks as you can see this is very modern and a very convenient shop for the locals to use of the Little Harwood community.
SZ Newsagents Evaluation.
I captured this image from a wide angle to fill the full frame with the shop front and the two buildings either side of the modernized shop i did this because i like the three different shades of brick work within this photograph this shows that the brick work has been replaced and modernized over many years of this building been standing. The brick work to the right hand side of the shop contrasts with the new brick work of the modernized shop.
S-1/200 F/14 ISO-400
Friends Corner Convenience store
friends corner convenience store is situated on the corner of whalley old road and on providence street which leads off whalley old road which was built in
the year of 1929. this shop used to the local friends corner store and supplied the locals of the little harwood area with goods such as frozen foods, fresh fruit and veg but has recently converted in to a more modernized corner shop and changed its name to friends corner convince storewhere they sell a range of goods such as : English and Asian foods, stationary, electrical goods, pet foods, nappies, milk and bread this is
also a very useful shop as it stays open late nights as most corner shops will close between 6-7 pm.
I like the angle this has been shot on as it shows the detail within the curved pavement which really makes this photograph stand out from this series of images i am producing.
the contrast in this photograph within the blue and white tones which catch the viewers eye are quite distracting which takes the focus of the documentary side of this photograph. I also like how within this photograph the defined line above the shop floor which stands out as the two different walls, the brick work and the stone work contrasts greatly this shows how the two rows of terraced houses meet together to create this corner shop.
S-1/200 F/14 ISO-400
This photograph i captured i shot from a front facing angle to capture the whole of the end of terraced row corner shop showing the tradition of the corner shops being on the end of a large amount of terraced shops and houses. I took this image from the front facing angle to capture the modern cladding and modern shutters to show how this has modernized from a traditional shop would of looked like.

This is the original launderette from many years ago this is a self service for people that don't have the facility at there home to clean there washing
this is a coin operated launderette where you put your money and soap powder into the machines ad clothes then you set them off this is a very
convenient way for the locals to wash and dry there clothes without travelling along way. the style of this shop building is very traditional with the big glass window and the wooden
window and door frames. this shop is situated on whalley new road which was built in the year of 1870.
Roe Lee Launderette Evaluation.
This is a typical traditional 60's end of terraced local launderette. This image caught my eye with the flat roof and 3 main top square windows above the shop. I aimed to focus in on the traditional green tiles that really make this image stand out from the others in this series i captured the window which frames the 5 main washing machines facing out the window which make this image interesting and shows the original machinery that would have been installed when this shop first opened. The contrast within the green and red on the front of this end of terraced shop shows tradition through the colour's that remain today.

North-gate News.
15 North Gate, which was built in the year of 1772 houses the North-gate Newsagent, this is a very modernized newsagents shown through the industrial blue aluminium door and window frames and also the modern security shutters and the aluminium
sign. The traditional aspects still stand out through this modernized building this being the arched windows above the shop and also the fact it is a middle terraced shop with buildings at either side. This shop now sells modern confectionery, crisp, soft drinks, News and magazines,
tobacco, sweets. The main trade is brought in to this business is with people that visit the town center as there isn't any newsagents types of businesses within the town center itself.
North-gate News Evaluation.
I took great care when preparing to capture this image as i wanted to make sure i incorporated the decorative brick work around the rounded window above the shop as this helps to show that this is not a modern building and shows this local mid-terraced shop still has traditional factors within it. If i had to re-shoot this photograph i would use my view finder and crop the shop which you can see the sign of as this is distracting to the views eye and takes all attention of the subject of this local shop. The contrast in this image is very defined with the royal blues and the different shades of brown within the brick work really makes this image come alive.
S-1/200 F/13 ISO-400
King Street News Evaluation.
The composition within this photograph was very important when capturing this photograph as you can see iv photographed on an angle looking down the road that this shop is situated on which I have included a slight bit of the windows of each side shops of this mid-terraced local shop. you can see the modern brick work within this photograph but this shop still has it's traditional factors which are demonstrated by the wooden architecture above the window and door and the colour of this shop is quite a traditional colour and dull.
I decided to capture the flag stones within this photograph as it goes with the traditional shop front and tells a story of age within this one photograph.
S-1/80 F/6.3 ISO-400
Cell-Fones.
17 Johnston st cellphones this corner shop built in 1870 is now a modern mobile phone shop that sells mobile phones and accessories such as chargers and phone cases it also offers phone repairs. This shop originally would have been a traditional corner shop that sold bread milk, cigarettes, newspapers, and other everyday essentials items to the locals of johnstone street and the passers by going into the town center, this shop would have also got custom from the local mill workers.
Cell-Fones Evaluation.
I decided to use this composition within this photograph as i was working closely with the use of different angles and this angle really compliments this corner shop, as the door of the shop is on the corner of the building so using this as a starting part i produced this photograph.
I like how i have only captured half of the windows above the shop this really makes you want to see more of the building but also i decided to to this as i didn't want to distract the viewers eye to the above of the shop when the main subject is below them windows. the colour's within this photograph really contrast with the beige, browns, blues. The shutter on the window and doors on this building are modern features of this building.
S-1/80 F/9.0 ISO-400
There is two main shop fronts which make up the one photograph. I used a straight facing angle to capture both shops together and so they were clear and both with great amount of detail which i full filled. I really like the defined line down the middle of these two buildings separating them it really makes this image have alot of details. The use of the different colour's of brick work within this photograph gives detail and makes this image stand out from the rest. The tile's around the second part of the shop shows that this had been made up to date within the 60's as these tiles were what all the corner shops had in the year of the 1960. What i also like is that all the colour's within this photograph clash but makes this an interesting image to look at and makes you want to see more. Also another factor that gives this image alot more to look at is the red bricks appearing through the white paint on the left hand side of the first building and also the age of the drainpipe which is attached to the side of the building draining the rain water off the roof into a bigger drainage area.
S-1/80 F/9.0 ISO-400
73 Hereford Road Evaluation.
This youth club really is photographically potential as you can see the tattyness within this image which tells a story in itself this is the main reason i captured this image this is demonstrated through the worn and weathered light blue security shutters, the what looks like rusty and rotten wooden window frames on the top floor of this building. the contrast between the dark and lights within this photograph makes it contrast and make this image stand out from the rest of the photographs in this series.
S/1/200 F/13 ISO-400
75 Hereford Road Evaluation.
Within this composition in this photograph i decided when capturing this image i would slightly tilt the camera the the left hand side to experiment with the angle this put the image on.
The modern security shutters and the bold sign are very eye catching within this photograph the contrast within this photograph is very fine within the whites and browns but quite bold within the white ad black colour's This photograph holds a smooth looking texture to it which makes it come alive and be more realistic.

52 Hereford Road.
52 Hereford rd closed shop this shop up until a couple of years ago was a local corner shop and served the community of whitebirke it was built at the same time as the housing estate being built in 1959 originally it would have sold everyday items such as break milk, newspapers, cigarettes, snacks, drinks tinned food frozen food this shop probably closed due to the number of other local corner shops in the area and trying to compete with the the large supermarket chains.
52 Hereford Road.
This is a closed down shop with a very weathered look to the whole building which makes this image alot more interesting to capture. this neglected building has great texture which you can split this photograph into 3 parts of this one being the smooth rendered but slightly weathered cream at the top of the building with the boarded up windows, the second being the brick work and the top of the very weathered shutter which gives a lot of detail to this photograph with the decorative brick work above the shutter with its dark coloring to it and also the mossy decrepit shutter really stands out within this image and gives it alot of characteristics, and the third part being the eye catching brick work on the bottom of the shop which distracts the viewer from looking at the subject within this image.

Intack D.I.Y
181 Accrington Road Intack DIY, this shop is mid terrace shop that was built in 1884, this shop sells DIY goods such as screws, tools, paint, paint brushes, door furnishings, bins, plumbing products and more, and they also offer a key cutting service, this shop is on a main road that runs from Accrington to the town center and gets its custom from passing trade and the locals of the area, originally this shop would have been a local corner shop that sold everyday items such as break milk, newspapers, cigarettes,
This is a very eye catching shop as you can see there is a great amount of stock attached to the front window. I captured this photograph across the road as i wouldn't of been able to fill my frame with this shop to the preciseness that i have done as the pavement is to close to the shop itself. The bold colour's that make up this shop really clash which draws the viewers attention to the subject i am focusing on more than this mid-terraced building.
S-1/200 F/13 ISO-400
S-1/200 F/13 ISO-400
I worked closely with the composition within this photograph i have demonstrated this by filling the frame of this second hand shop with just the shop and not the buildings at the side i really like this as there is nothing to distract the viewers eye too. This is a busy photograph which is made like this by the actual shop itself being very over crowded with goods they sell and buy from customers. I like the beige concrete stone at the top of the terraced building which really contrasts with the brick work which is a pale red colour.

Ishaq Grocers and Off license.
78 Bromley Street, Ishaq grocers and off licence was built in 1870 on the corner of bromley street and and devonport road this shop sells the same goods as it did when it was built things such as fruit and veg, Newspapers and confectionery.
Today it is an Off license and has licences for selling a large range of alcohol.
Ishaq Grocers and off licence
I shot this image early morning just as the sun was rising
as you can see in the distance of the photograph the dull contrast
and eery look this shop front has without lighting
the front of this shop directly on the image the angle, I captured the shot
so that the buildings next to it look smaller and almost unrealistic compared to this shop
itself. I really like the lighting around the door and its shutters and the dark coloured
Milk bottle crates that I made sure I captured in my photograph.

situated on the corner of Devonport road and fox house street

M.Zaman & Sons.
Devonport Road was previously Sarah Ellen Street was built in 1929.
M.Zaman & sons
it was originally built in as a local corner shop, its still to this day a corner shop and a groceries shop this shop also sells rice and spices and modern Essentials like cleaning products and
House hold products.
M.Zaman & Sons Evaluation.
Whilst I was capturing this photograph I slightly tilted the camera
on an angle making the building look on an angle I did
this to experiment on what the outcome would be and I think
it has made the image alot more interestingly to look at and makes you ask
questions about the building what I would change would be the darkness around the shutters
and highlight the area to bring out more detail around the door as you can
see the black decorative bricks. You can see this was photographed
early in the morning as the natural lighting within the sky and the row of houses
in the background.

Kashmir halal centre
53 Devon port road
Situated on the corner of Devonport road and Whitehead street.
This was originally a local corner shop which has converted to a Halal butchers where the Asian community buy there meat and poultry from this shop.
This shop would of been a local corner shop which would have served the Johnston street area locals to confectionery and everyday goods such as bread and milk and other essentials.
Kashmir Halal Centre Evaluation.
I have used the natural lighting from the early morning sunshine which which
I found hard to get the correct exposure as you can see it is slightly exposed where
the sun is hitting the side of the building itself I could of used just a slightly
higher F/stop to control the lighting which is hitting the side of the building but didn't
want to change the exposure on the rest of the photograph as it is really contrasty exposure
which makes the shop stand out.
I like the angle this shop was built on as you can see it is an original build with the building
coming to a point over the door frame and the brick work over the door way.

48 Devonport Road Pound World.
48 Devonport road.
This corner shop is now a pound world, in this shop they sell cleaning products, they sell a wide range of products these include cleaning and household products, tools and cooking equipment
such as pans and cups. this is a very useful shop for the Devonport road locals as there is a wide range of goods which the usual local shops don't usually stock.
48 Devonport Road, Pound World Evaluation.
I captured this photograph and purposely cut half
the other side of the shutters off as it would of been a very basic
but eye catching face fronting angle of this corner shop (pound World).
I was experimenting with angles for this photograph with two setts of shutters in and a sign
I think this really works with this composition within this image, Its a very
basic but shows the potential of the shop itself.
I think the exposure of this photograph are really well thought out too which is shown when
you look closely at this photograph.

Raja Video.
Raja Video is situated on the corner of Addison street, Addison Street was built in the year of 1870, This store used to be a local corner shop which sold goods such as Newspapers,Bread,Milk
and other needed items for the locals of the area to purchase. This is now converted in to a Video store and local grocers and confectioners where the locals can purchase video's without going
to the main town center.
Raja Video Evaluation.
What I like the most of all about this image is the angle with the two
windows area (shutters) are on two
different streets which meet on the corner within where this shop is situated.
also the old fashioned step which looks like stone.
I think the image is slightly under exposed making areas such as the the footpath
blend in with the pavement without any defined line between
each one loosing out on the detail within this image. If I had
to re-shoot this image I would maybe step back and get more of the front
of the step in to the image to show the whole corner what this shop is
situated on.

68 Whittaker street.
Whittaker Street was originally built in 1878 which is situated on the corner of Whittaker street and on Devonport Road.
This shop would have sold the essentials when it first opened such as Bread milk newspapers and confectionery and cigarettes to the locals of
the area as a convenience of the corner shop being close by there house.
68 Whittaker Street Evaluation.
I really like how I have captured the street sign within this image as it
really adds to the photograph with the lamp post it is on also shows the modern
sign and the old corner shop today.
You can see the natural lighting within this photograph shining
into the photograph around the bottom of the door and under the window with
the shutters on. I like how I have stepped back and made sure I
included the road and pavement within this photograph showing
that the shop is actually situated on the corner of the street and also
the modern road and road marking really adds this photograph and make it very interesting.

Hassan's grocers
Ada street was built in 1885, The shop is situated on the corner of Ada street and Devonport road, This shop would have originally been a confectioners
and sold house old goods. such as bread milk and other needed products. this shop has been converted into a grocers and food store where
you can purchase goods such as fruit and veg, Herbs and spices.
Hassan's Grocers Evaluation.
I directed my camera aiming it towards the corner of this building
were both walls meet in the middle making the angle being diagonally
again I was experimenting with the use of angles you can see the Sun (natural lighting)
shining mainly on one of the walls of the shop.
I really like this as it gives the photograph alot more characteristics with the defined dark and light sections within one photograph.
I stood back to capture some of the road in this to add more detail within this photograph.

Two Tree's Off licence .
Granville Road was built in the year of 1903, The two trees off licence is situated on Granville road on the corner and is still open today.
This shop sells house old goods and also they are licensed for alcohol to this is a local shop amonst large range of various other corner shops around the Revidge/dukes brow area.
Two Tree's Off Licence Evaluation.
This photograph is quite dull which is under exposed slightly you can
see this is because I used F/22 which is very small and needed to let
slight bit more light in to this photograph.
If I had to to re-shoot this image I would use an F/16-18 around that number
which would define lines and make the exposure slightly better.
I do like the angle I have captured this from showing it is on the corner of the road
showing a row of terraced houses.
If I had to re-shoot this I would stand further back trying to capture the pavement and the path leading to this corner shop to make them stand out too.

Save Stop.
Granville Road was built in the year of 1903, This is another one of the shops which make up the corner convenience stores around Revidge area
this is situated on the corner of Lemmington Road and Granville Road, This corner shop is like a smaller version of large supermarket and they sell a wide
range of house old essentials such as Toilet rolls, Cleaning products, and spices and other kinds of tinned items, at a lower price than going to a large supermarket.
Save Stop Evaluation.
This is one of my least favourite that I have captured over this period of
time I have been working on this project.
This is a very square photograph with everything being made up of squares and rectangle shapes examples of this are the windows with the shutters on, and the save stop shop sign
is also very rectangle.
The contrast within this photograph is really ascetically pleasing.
I think the amount of shapes that make this photograph up distracts the eyes drastically to the quality of photograph.

Patels Confectionery
Patels Confectionery
Patels high class confectionery is situated on Granville road and on New bank road, New Bank Road was first built in 1885, This high class confectioner
was originally established in 1892 and they supply the locals of revidge area with goods such as Greeting cards and confectionery (sweets, crisp etc) and also
they sell phone top ups for the modern living.
Patels Confectionery Evaluation.
This photograph really works well with the clear blue sky and the sun striking straight across
my photograph with a very defined line of shadow and the natural lighting (sunlight).
The angle of this corner shop I photographed was just off too the left of the joining of the two walls meeting I thought this would be a good angle to capture the whole of the shop without cutting any thing that belongs to the shop out. The contrast between
the clear blue sky and the bricks of the wall really contrasty It really gives this photograph
potential.

they sell house old goods such as House cleaning products, Crisp, Sweets, Cigarettes, and other essentials they also have an Halal butchers where
they supply the local's with a butchers without having to go to a supermarket they can go and purchase meat and poultry in there local corner shop.
Fasils cash and carry evaluation.
You can see where this photograph is slightly over exposed making the black
writing blend in with the white background. If I had to
re-shoot this image I could use a Bigger F/stop which would
dim the natural lighting which is hitting the white sign above the door.
I really like the angle I captured this photograph on it helps this helps subject (shop) stand out vastly and also the bus stop adds a feel of real life community within this area shown through this photograph.

called Movie Zone they specialized in Videos Films, DVD's, Audio CD's and cassettes and other electrical goods, This store also repaired TV's and video's.
NewBank Road Discount Store Evaluation.
This photograph is quite dull but I like the concept
of the darkness within this photograph.
I like how at the side of the building you can see the back ally
and the pavement in front of the shop itself.

Al Makkah Halal
This is a New build, what looks like an extension and it is a halal butchers where they sell poultry and halal meat to the locals this is situated on NewBank road
this is a butchers close to the locals so they don't have to travel to main supermarkets or even to the town centre.
Al Makkah Halal Evaluation.
This is a photograph which I captured of one of our more modern built corner stores
around Blackburn, the exposure within this photograph is really well thought out.
I decided to use shutter speed of 1/80 F/11.
The composition within this photograph is just off to the right hand side of the frame
but I like the uniqueness within this very simple photograph with the back alley being shown with the bins and the gates really help to show that this is an actual corner shop. If
I had to change this image in any way I would make I would make it a little bit more central in the frame by working more closely on the composition.
S - 1/80 F/11 ISO - 400
Home Essentials
This corner shop is situated in the middle of new bank road and has been an immigration advisors before converting in to an home esstials store,
this is a shop which supply the locals with the esstienals such as cleaning products and other goods. This is a very busy area around the revidge
area with all these little corner shops converting into other kinds of shops to keep blackburns corner shops business thriving as you can see from these images.
Home Essentials Evaluation.
This is another photograph of a corner shop which I captured around the revidge area of Blackburn.
The composition within this photograph I planned it is it would be central but with a little bit of walls and the back alley leaking into the image I think it helps to set the scene of the ascetically pleasing photograph, also I really like how I have managed to move my camera to tilt it to one side ever so slightly so the main walls of the building are not completely straight this adds characteristics within my photograph. The lighting within this photograph is very subtle with one harsh splash of light on the shutter from the early morning sun lighting.

This shop served the locals to the confectionery and groceries.still today this shop still serve the locals of the area with such goods as Cigarettes,Small
house old cleaners such as toilet rolls and sweets.

The decorative brick work on the top of the shop really stands out and it gives the image a sense of an aged building and shows traditional building which helps this photograph come alive.

newsagents which has modern convinces such as a cash machine and also sells gas and electric to the locals along side the confectionery

I like how I have incorporated the road sign into this particular photograph as it shows the old fashioned corner shop with modern street furniture.

such as Fruit and Veg, Newspapers and cigarettes.

This shop is a local corner shop in the Mill Hill area which is one a many in this area and they supply such things as, Frozen Food,
Snacks, Groceries, Fruit and Veg, Off licence Cigarettes cash machine confectionery. This is quite a modern corner shop which is
like a super market on a smaller scale for the locals convenience of not having to travel to the main supermarkets but can still purchase
things that other local shops wouldn't supply.

42 Queen Victoria Street.
Lindley Street was built in the year of 1889. This bakery is situated on the corner of Queen Victoria street and Lindley street.
This bakery is one of a few bakery's within the mill hill area, Which serves its locals a range of hot and cold sandwiches, cakes and biscuits and
also they serve the locals fresh home made bread. this is still open and serving the residents of the mill hill area.

Shorrock Lane Fish And Chips.

The wash bowl
The wash bowl which is situated on the corner of Parkinson street and also New chapel street. This is an original self service coin operated
laundry where the locals of the mill hill can go and wash there clothes if they don't have the facilities at home.
you put coins in to a slot machine on the side of a washing machine and a dryer and you can leave them and come back for them when they are
ready, this is self services so to manage your own washing on your own but this is a convince for the locals that don't have these
facilities at there own home.

I also wanted to incorporate whilst capturing this image was the ballads as this shows it is on the corner of two busy streets, it also shows that this area were this corner shop has been situated for many years has always been a busy main street running through the area this is shown by the two old ballads and the one very modernised ballad with its reflective black and white colour cover.

when capturing this photograph I wanted to show the modernised front of this shop with the new modern day signs and the modern aluminium windows and door frames. I also wanted to incorporate the big sticker of the goods they sell within this shop this is modern as it is just a sticker but it also shows what it how it would of been when it originally opened as traditionally they would of stuck posters and newspaper cuttings and also place there goods in the windows of there shops. I also wanted to include the traditional toy drop down machine as these are very traditional of when the shops would of originally opened.

they supply the locals with essential products such as Newspapers,Sweets,Confectionery,Milk, Bread and they have also converted into
using modern technology by selling phone top ups and gas and electrical card top ups this is still there serving there
locals the goods they need.
2 Higher Witton Road Evaluation.

I thought really closely to my composition when capturing this photograph i stood so i could frame the whole of the front and side of the shop, and also include the 2 big bay windows within this image making the front of the shop the focus of this photograph. I really like where i have captured the pavement on the opposite side of the road as it really makes this image stand out and makes it more interesting. This is also evidence that this fish and chip shop in on a corner. when capturing this image i wanted to include the traditional qualities of the shop these include the blue wooden architecture around the sign at the top of the shop as this is a original to the building i also included the big fish advertisement above the shop as this is weathered and shows age.

with the modern essentials they need for day to day life.
Redlam News & stationary Evaluation.
When i captured this image there was a strong beem of natural lighting (sunlight) on the angle i was taking the photograph of the result of this is the harsh defined shadow of a lamp-post which i have used to my full advantage within this photograph as it makes it an interesting image.
This image shows that the local shop is very modern as it got UPVC windows and doors it also has alot of modern advertising in the windows but this type of advertising is quite traditional for this sort of shop.

Redlam Superstore Evaluation.
This local shop I captured is within a row terraced houses, I photographed this image
from across the street as the pavement outside the front of the shop wasn't wide enough
for me to be able to frame the image as well as I manage to with the composition I chose
to full fill this photograph, this shop is situated on a busy main road though the Redlam area so capturing this photograph meant timing to be precise so i didn't incorporate the moving traffic
within this image.
the colour of this building is very dull and dirty looking rendered brick work which gives the look that its been standing many years, with the green moss patches on the walls of the building.
within this photograph you can see that this shop has had modern touches to it shown through what looks like a loft conversion with a skylight and new roof, and also the security shutters with a modern shop sign with the security shutters which also are an aspect of modern day shops, but on the other hand the green wooden window frames and door frame show the age within this local shop.

This photographed is of a local corner shop which is situated just off Preston New Road,
i worked closely with the contrast of the dark brick work and the very vibrant red around the windows on the front of the shop which really make the windows and door of this shop stand out to attract customers.

Sidat's Hardware.
My composition was really important when capturing this middle terraced local shop as i was aiming to include the modernized features such all the modern goods that they sell within this shop are placed on the shop front to attract the passers by. This was a challenging photograph to obtain as it is on the main road through the center of little harwood i have aimed to capture this as i've included some of the road in this image along with the metal railings ad the modern zig zag line on the road area. Along with the modernization within this shop i have also include the original traditional features within the building in my image i have done this by including the stone work and brick work on first floor of this building this stone architecture catches the eye of the viewer.

local Asian community to supply then with halal meat. This shop sells different types of halal meats such as: chicken and fish the shop would have
been modernized in the 1960's with the tiled shop front and security shutters.
Little Harwood Halal Butchers Evaluation.
I wanted to capture the modernization within this photograph but still also obtain traditional this photograph helps to compare this as its split in half with the top of the building being the original stone work from when this building was first built and the tiled shop front underneath with aluminum industrial shop windows and tiles from what looks like the 1960's era.
The contrast within this photograph is very subtle between all the shades of browns within the building but the vibrant of the advertisement sign helps to break up to near shades of browns and blacks.

This shop captured my eye which made me photograph this shop, with the vibrant colour's of the main shop sign and the blue around the window frames this colour really contrasts with the brown shades of the stone and tiled front of this building. I also wanted to include that this shop is on a main road this is shown through the way i have captured the ballads directly in front of the path of which the shop is situated on. I captured this on a slight diagonal angle as to show that this is a middle terraced shop.

This image i captured by standing on the other side of the road so i could fill the frame with the whole of the shop and not just the front as you can see this shop is at the side as well as the front. I like how i have captured the pavement which shows that it is on the corner as the pavement follows the shop round and complements the building.

bottles that they would of used. This is a very modernized 20th century local shop in a busy community.
New Top Choice Food Store Evaluation.
I also like the fact I have captured the two elderly people in this image as this is the locals that keep these small business thriving in the Blackburn distract.

vastly over the years.

10 Warrington Street Evaluation.

I like the angle this has been shot on as it shows the detail within the curved pavement which really makes this photograph stand out from this series of images i am producing.
the contrast in this photograph within the blue and white tones which catch the viewers eye are quite distracting which takes the focus of the documentary side of this photograph. I also like how within this photograph the defined line above the shop floor which stands out as the two different walls, the brick work and the stone work contrasts greatly this shows how the two rows of terraced houses meet together to create this corner shop.

milk, egg, bread, toiletries, and they also held a licence for alcohol in which they sold larger, wines, tobacco, spirits they also have modern day
conveniences such as mobile phone top ups and also machines so the locals can easily pay there gas and electricity bills, this shop is now closed but still
stands with its shutters and signs on.
Kwik Stop Evaluation.

Roe Lee Launderette.
this is a coin operated launderette where you put your money and soap powder into the machines ad clothes then you set them off this is a very
convenient way for the locals to wash and dry there clothes without travelling along way. the style of this shop building is very traditional with the big glass window and the wooden
window and door frames. this shop is situated on whalley new road which was built in the year of 1870.

The corner Convenience Store
This corner convenience store is situated on the corner of Cardwell place which was originally named Fish Lane and was built in the
year of 1890. This is quite a large corner shop and a traditional one this is shown through the row of terraced buildings with this shop
situated on the corner and its door is on the corner of the building which makes this a corner shop. The signs on this building advertise Iron Bru
with all the aluminum signs are printed with iron bru and also the sun blinds on the front of this building shows that this is traditional as iron bru has
been an advertisement within shops for many years. This would have once of supplied the locals of this area with the essential goods which they would
of needed such as Bread and Milk, News, tobacco, confectionery and other essentials that the locals may need.
The Corner Convenience Store Evaluation.
The angle i have captured this is from diagonally facing the front door of this corner shop i did this to show the viewer of this image that it is situated on a corner shop and to also fill the frame with the two main windows at either side of the door, this is a really strong contrasty photograph as you can see from the vibrant blue and orange signs that are attached to the sun blinds and the main shop sign which work really well with the white brick work and make the advertisement signing stand out and catch the customers eyes. I also like how this photograph shows the age within the building itself it gives a feel of age. There is a slight distracting part of sky within this photograph which distracts the eyes from the subject, (shop) which if i had to re-shoot this image i would stand slightly closer to minimize the sky area within this photograph.

Blakey moor Newsagents Ltd.
3 Blakey moor was built in the year of 1911, on this row of terraced buildings holds the Blakey moor newsagent limited and mobile solutions.this is situated on the top corner of the street and supply's the locals of the area and brings in trade from the near by Blackburn college
and also the people that visit the town. this supply's the locals with sweets, drinks, magazines and news, greeting cards and also supply's the locals with mobile solutions with they can unlock and repair phones, sell phones and accessories this is quite a modernized business and offers the locals an cash machine which is situated on the out side of the shop on the corner of the building.
Blakey Moor Newsagents Ltd Evaluation.
This building has been standing for many years which you can see with the worn brick work above this shop this adds traditional factors to this building and also detail within this photograph which makes you want to see more. I captured this image on this angle to try and fit the full photograph in to the frame without cutting any out but as you can see i have slightly cut out the last window at the far right of this photograph to prevent this in the future if i have to re-shoot this i would stand more to my left and photograph right down this building to make sure i fill the frame without cutting any important factors of the building out. also i have captured a slight bit of the street lamp into this shot which i would avoid and take care with in the future also. this photograph does have great composition within the sky and the building i left enough room at the bottom to make sure i added the sky showing the height of this building is dramatic and normally corner shops are just the size of a terraced house.

King Street News.
44 king street which was built in the year of 1795. King street news is situated on this street and is a traditional middle terraced local shop they supply the locals with goods such as Tobacco, cold drinks, confectionery, magazines, Newspapers, Newspaper Delivery service, Cards
and stationery, phone cards, and they have modern day technology which supply the locals of this area with a pay point for the bills. This is a very convenient store as it is oped 7 days a week. this is a traditional building which is shown through the architecture within this building.

The shutter on the window and doors on this building are modern features of this building.

khonat news this shop built in 1870 is three building that makes up this large newsagents, this shop still does what it originally did when it was first built,
this shop is a modern corner shop selling everyday essentials such as bread, milk, newspapers, drinks, snacks and confectionery to the locals of the Johnston street area
and the near by the college, khonat news this middle terraced shop is just one building that makes up khonat news store this modern shop sells everyday essentials to the locals of the Johnston street area this shop was originally R Jackson newsagents shop would have originally
sold different local newspapers, every day essentials such as bread, milk, cigarettes, khonat is made up of 3 separate shops which are joined together, with the first and second building
making up the shop and the third terraced building being closed to the public but khonat store uses it for the storage within this newsagents.
Khonat News Evaluation.

Mars Mini Market.
Mars Mini Market is situated on Johnston street and is an off licence for the local people.
this shop supply's the people of the community to purchase goods such as tobacco, frozen foods, confectionery, snacks, cold drinks, house hold products such as cleaning products. this is a very convenient store for the locals as it is like a mini super market but without having to travel to the main supermarkets.
Mars Mini Market Evaluation.
I used this composition as i wanted to make sure i captured the whole of this building into this one image. This is quite a modern shop which is shown through the different shades of browns within the brick work. I think that the windows at the top level of this shop really distracts the viewers eye so i would take this into consideration when re-photographing this photograph. I like how i have stepped back and captured the whole of the shop front and the sides of the buildings next to this store and some of the road as this demonstrates that this is a mid-terraced shop.

Fruit and Veg Traditional store.
This traditional fruit and veg store demonstrates the traditional way of how they would of displayed the fresh fruit and veg on the front of the store with it placed on pallets with artificial grass placed on top of the pallets with a canape covering the fresh fruit and vegetables this shop also supply's the locals with herbs, spices, and bags of rice this still is open and serves the locals today.
Fruit and Veg traditional store.
This photograph really stands out from the rest in the series as the traditional factors over lay the modern in which there wasn't very many corner shops holding there traditional factors this is shown in this image as i have captured the fruit and veg which are displayed on the front of the shop what i would change about is that i captured this at 6 am and as you can see the full display of the fruit and veg hadn't been set out fully so this doesn't give the full aspect of what it would look like when all the fruit and veg are displayed on the front of this shop. The greens and browns within this photograph really compliment this photograph and the contrast between the canape and the road really makes this image come alive. The white line in the right hand corner really distracts the eye of the viewer from the subject so i would take this into consideration when re-photographing this image.

M and I news is a local corner shop which is situated on Hereford Road this shop was built when the whitebrike estate first got built in the year of 1959. This shop has modernized over the years but when it first opened it would of only supplied the locals of the area with the essentials they would of needed without travelling to the main town mall, this still supply's the locals of the area but with a wider range of goods ranging from soft drinks, confectionery, stationary, gas-electric-water payments, cigarette, New, magazines and other small essentials that the locals maybe.

this photograph i captured making sure i incorporated the door of the next house within this image to make it really contrast with each other. when you look closely into this photograph you can see that it is made up of many lines this is demonstrated through the roof line and the roof line behind this one this as great impact on this photograph making it interesting and also makes you question if that house is further away than it actually is in this photograph. there are a great amount of eye striking colour's within this photograph which really make you focus on the subject of what i am documenting which is the shop and not the building.

Fountain Chippy.
201 Accrington Road fountain chippy was built in the year of 1884, this chip shop is on a road that separates the whitebirk housing estate and the shadsworth estate so it gets
most of its trade from the locals of the whitebirk and shadsworth estates. This shop is situated on a busy main road and also gets custom from passing trade in cars, this shop still does what it was originally built for, a local fish and chip shop, it sells food such as fish, chips, sausage, john bulls, dabs, pies, t cakes, drinks and other kinds of food.
Fountain Chippy Evaluation.
I captured this photograph on the other side of the road as the composition wouldn't of been as precise on the other side in front and the pavement isn't wide enough to capture the whole of the front of this shop into it this fish and chip shop is situated on a busy main road through Intack which made it a challenge for me to not capture the cars within this image too.
i really like how this building is made up of squares and rectangles this is demonstrated through the door and windows within this building and also the subtlety bold sign which complements this building.

This photograph is of a mid-terraced local shop the light colored brick work within this shop makes the advertisement sign stand out more as it is white with red contrasty writing on. I also captured this on on the opposite side of the road to be able to frame this image to the best of my ability. the contrasty signs within this photograph really distract the viewer and makes them want to see more, my composition within this photograph is slightly off center which has resulted in the 2 buildings at either side of this shop to be incorporated within this photograph also which i would take more care when re-shooting.

This shop was originally a local corner shop that sold everyday items such as break milk, newspapers, cigarettes, and other main essentials that the locals would of needed.
Bhulas Store Evaluation.

This is a modern building built with stone work, and has a modern door for that flat that is above this shop, The blue industrial aluminum door and window frame really work well with this modern building this is one of this shops traditional features. I captured this image from the opposite side of the road which made me be able to frame my image and not include the buildings at either side of this mid-terraced shop. as you can see on the road surface it gives a rough gravelly looking texture which helps to make this image look realistic and obtains more characteristics within this photograph.

Ravat's Evaluation.
To me this is a new take on an old building which is being made to look modern and has lost all its traditional factors within this once traditional build. this is proved by the modern sign and the browny red shutters and also the stone work. I took great care with my composition within this image as i didnt want to include to much of the surrounding area as this would result in taking the viewers eye off the main subject. I have included the modern street furnishings (bus stop) within this photograph as it shows realism of a working busy terraced row of shops.
