week three roundabouts

Pathway: screen printing

Thursday morning in roundabouts I did screen printing with kim, i enjoyed this but wasn't too sure about perusing this as it wasn't for me but i enjoyed the introduction to it, i made a few prints.

1) you gave an image to kim to enlarge and stretch on to the screen.
2) you chose the materials you wanted to use to print on to such as:
      : Old photographs
:Film paper
: Tracing paper
: coloured cards
:Cotton
* any other materials can be used but without big gaps in cause they need to be flat.
3) then you mix the screen printing paste and the colour of paint you want to use.
4) you place the material you chose to print on to underneath the screen printing board then you apply paint in a thick line at the top of the print and then use the rubber spatula to evenly move the paint firmly across the screen covering your image to produce your screen print.

week three roundabouts`

Pathway: visual communications

I really enjoyed Thursday afternoon with jo in visual communications, we used our images that we had made black and white using photo shop in the previous lesson on Tuesday and cut into them removing either the black or white areas then holding them up and shining light through them to cast a shadow on to a white background then photographing the shadow.

week three roundabouts

Pathway: Visual Communications

In the Visual communications Jo went through a powerpoint that was full of other peoples examples of there work to give us an a quick insight in to what you can achieve and what vis comms are.

I wasn't quite sure about visual communication as it is such a wide range of subjects brung into one I think I will need more time so I will come back into this roundabout just to experiment and also when I go down photography path way I might need some form of visual communications to complete a high standard of work.

We also used photo shop to create our image in to black and white using the threshold and adding and reducing the contrast ready for kims lesson on Thursday for screen printing,
I also then experimented using the same image but
I chose to  make thin white lines ready for working into it on Thursday in my last part of this roundabout.
This is my chosen image printed on asotape.

Week three roundabouts

Pathway: Wirework

On Tuesday morning I went to my roundabouts and I did wire work it wasn't my strong point but I gave it ago I didn't manage to complete my whole piece of work but I might go back and complete my piece of wire work when I have a bit of spare time.

Kim gave us a health and safety talk on working with the spot welders and gave us a thorough demonstration on using them and also on using all the tools which was going to be using to produce our pieces of work,

I chose to use the piece relating to the museum brief which was my hare and I asked Kim to enlarge the image so I could work from it easier,

I did bit by bit making sure each joint was crossed so I could spot weld I managed to get the ears the head and the back done but I am focusing on coming back to this and completing it.

Also before we left Kim give us a talk on what we would be doing on the morning of Thursday for the second half of her round about as we will be experimenting with Screen printing.

Week 2 Roundabout

Pathway: Media

Jamie gave us a talk on what we would be doing for the two sessions and then showed us 3 short clips, also talked us through each clip and gave us information about each short clip.

This short clip by Stan Brackage, was made by sticking dead moths to a piece of clear film and then another piece of clear film stuck on top of it two seal them together.

We was also shown this clip made by Mitchell and Kenyon showing what blackburn was like in 1904 in black and white film.

also jamie told us about the first western film being filmed in blackburn.

Week Two Roundabouts

Pathway; Photography

Tuesday 17th September.

Tuesday morning we worked with martyn Pearson who gave us an insight into drawing with light, this included using torches and long exposures in a dark light free room.
I had set the camera up on to manual focus and used a small F/stop such as F11.

These are some of the experimental images i produced.

Task One

Experiment one:
Camera settings:
Focal Length- 39
F/Stop- 11
Exposure Time- 3 Seconds.

I used a little hand held torch aiming it straight at the camera and by moving the light around and using a long exposure i ended up with this image. i would try and experiment on making it a lot more central as this is favouring the top left hand corner of the canvas.

Experiment Two:
Camera Settings:
Focal Length- 32
F/Stop- 11
Exposure Time- 8

As you can see my exposure length for this image is quite a bit longer on this experiment than it was on my first attempt making it 8 seconds i could add a lot more light within the photograph, this is giving the effect of angel's wings. i would try and get less lighting within the face area so darker and makes the background stand out a lot more.

Experiment three:
Camera Settings:
Focal length- 32
F/Stop- 11
exposure time-8

This photograph gives the impression that it has been shot outside in total daylight but, it was photographed in a pitch black room with just a torch shining around the subject. and positioning the camera directly above the subject. Too me it looks like a landscape piece of photography.

Experiment Four:
Camera Settings:
Focal length- 39
F/Stop- 11
Exposure Time- 4

This is experiment four which didn't have a great out come as i learnt that the light has to be directly facing the camera and not all on to the subject as it will just become very light including the back ground as well.

Experiment Five.
Camera settings:
Focal Length- 36
Exposure Time - 9
F/Stop- 11

This is another experiment where two of us being on ground level and the other one stood behind the one stood behind drew out a boat with light and the other one did a sea using a different colour torch.
i really like the effect this has given this photograph.

Task Two:

Task two we was given a camera to go out and photograph and experiment using a camera with the surrounding facilities around the building.

I dont feel comfortable using the word abstract within my work as you cant have an abstract piece of photography as a photograph must be of something in reality.

These are some of my photographs i took for task two:

Experiment One:
Camera setting:
Focal Length- 55
F/Stop- 7.1
Exposure time- 1/60

This was one of the photograph's i took for task two as you can see there is shallow depth of field within this image. i also like the two lights shining on to the metal hand rail, and all the detail which you couldn't see just by looking without photo evidence.

Experiment Two:
Camera settings
Focal Length- 18
F/Stop- 7.1
Exposure 1/60

This is a photograph where i angled my camera directly over the staircase i like how this photograph has so much going on but still doesn't distract the eye.

Experiment Three:

Camera Settings:
Focal Length- 55
Exposure- 1
F/Stop- 25

I experimented using zooming techniques, also this photograph is over exposed 'Too bright' so if i had to change this i would make my F/Stop up to F32 to make the image darker.

thursday roundabouts

Pathway; Fine art

I carried on experimenting but I included paint and sticking my realistic images together,

What I did;

1) I gathered postcards together and I applied paint in two different ways, one in which where I used a ruler to spread evenly across the post card using two different colors to give texture to the image.

2) the other post card I did I wanted a more elegant look within in so I used yellow paint and I apples a think outline to the hoop to give a look of elegance. I didn't want to make this a busy image so I stuck to basic and not alot in one image.

This is one that I used two different colored paint and used a ruler to spread the paint evenly but still give good texture within the image.

This is also another experiment with spreading the paint with a ruler.

This is the more elegant effect I tried to achieve within this postcard.

I also did two other collage one with a women's face and also with a women in a magazine who had lost confidence were I stuck her into a path which was smaller than her to show confidence Problems with in the image.

These two are my collage which were more realistic and improved from the first attempt I made at this technique.

thursday roundabouts

Pathway; textiles

I aimed to finish my textiles piece of work within this session.
What I did;
1) I cut around my previous print making image of the hare which I printed on to cotton material
2) I then cut a square piece of material (cotton)
3) I then choose 3 colors of fabric ink and started to paint the top  bit red then the bottom half blue then I added the purple into the red part of the fabric.
4) I left this to dry whilst choosing the appropriate colored thread.
5) I then stitched my cut out hare on the the fabric into the middle of my square piece of material.

Equipment used;

+ square piece of cotton
+ fabric inks (red,blue,purple,)
+ Greg thread
+ the printed hare I had made using print making techniques.

What I really enjoyed about textiles was more on the Thursday session as I had more ideas and more clue of what I had to do for the basics I am going to follow this up with research I am going to do on the artists if been given.

This us my finished piece of textiles I could improve this by making alot more neater and maybe work back into it with different techniques I am willing to learn.

week one round abouts

FINE ART.

This us one of Robert
rauschenberg prints this caught my eye as it was on the brief and I went to look at it in color and you can see the different textures with what looks like acrylic paint making a water effect and the different colors that work together really well.
This is another one of Robert rauschenbergs prints these two are both quite similar but I really like the out  come of them both they really are great prints with brilliant colours within in each image

Pathway; fine art

On Thursday afternoon it was fine art and I did cutting up of photographs and images and re-combining to make a different outcome if that image.

My first idea was a women with a dress on I put someone else's head on to her shoulders and added another women's leg to make it so she had I only her arms and body which was the original part of the image.

My other experiment was a page with squares in with a women sat on them, I then went through other magazines and found other people in the sat down position and stuck them on the th
e squares as if they were printed on to the origanal piece of work.

This were my first experiment with in the fine art pathway.

Week one round abouts

TEXTILE

Photograph one
Photograph Two
Photograph Three

Pathway: textiles

We was shown and had a go at print making on to paper and cotton I found this quite hard as I'm not used to using these kind of materials but I gave it ago and I quite enjoyed it and think it could come into other bits of my work I produce.

I used a painting of a hare out of a magazine to help me produce something on the same lines as what I chose to study at the museum , I traced the image on to tracing paper then I got my print making paint and rolled it evenly on to the plastic wallet and then lay my paper on as I wanted to experiment with both paper and cotton then I repeated this process on to cotton and did a repeat to fill the piece of material' I then decided to stitch free hand back into my print to give the effect of the fur on the hare and I did this by simple straight stitches I really liked the idea into building back into my print.

Blackburn Musuem

On Wednesday 4th September we was given our first task which was the drawing program me (museum interpretation)

We had to go to blackburn museum and have a look around then we had too chose one piece of artwork that caught our eye and then write 500 words about this one piece of art work and also sketch the image or photograph.

I decided to choose The painting A siesta by the artist Geza vastagh. As this really caught my eye and looked very interesting  I wrote my 500 words about this piece of work and how it made me feel and how the artist expressed the emotion through the painting they created.

I took this in to consideration in print making on my roundabouts as I chose to use a hare and print on to cotton and add in stitch work within my print.

Photograph Number One.

Photograph Number Two.

500 Words essay.

Lion and Lioness.

This drawing caught my eye straight away, the way the artist has used two dangerous predictors ''Lion, Lioness'' and made a calming relaxed painting using the browns and deep colours also this incredible painting stood out to me with all the detail within just the background but has an even balance so that the subject of this painting stands out cleanly and you can see what the effect the painter was trying to get from this piece of work.
What i like about this painting is that you get the sense of danger and also a sense of serenity at the same time. The painter has captured the painting of the lion protecting and guarding his Lioness, I dislike the frame of this painting as when i look into the painting i get the feeling i am in Africa in front of the lions as its very realistic and the painter has made it very true.
When you look at the painting it gives you the sense of light and dark the heat and the cool that the lions are in and the shade they have found to rest them self i feel as if they are Hungary and have travelled a long way to find this shelter  to lay down there tired and exhausted bodies.
The background shows they are in a cave could the lioness be expecting cubs?! and has found a safe and quiet place to give birth? This painting holds alot of imagination and questions.
The painter has captured the realistic textures within this painting, this is demonstrated by the stones and the roughness of the ground and the deafness of the cave and also the lines within the lions fur and mainly the main area has got great detail it all helps to bring the painting alive.
There is not much that i would change within this painting, as the painter has captured alot that is true, to the eye and could easily become a photograph but if I had to change anything i would change the detail at the top right hand corner were there is covered in cobwebs draping down as it draws your eye away from the main subject of this piece of art work. I would like to recreate this painting using photography. I would photograph two predators, male and female in there natural environment and to compromise to create a well balanced photograph.
I would do this by experimenting using my digital DSLR camera and also 35mm film to see which the right combination of effects to capture this beautiful image correctly.
I would experiment by using different camera angles such as from directly in front or diagonally above looking down on the main subject. I would also capture these images close up using the view finder i would crop the parts of the image i don't want out before capturing.
I like this painting as it is ascetically pleasing the artist has captured this painting in a natural environment of two predators in Africa.
